A collection of photos taken during a driving cab trip from St Pancras to Ramsgate, and return on a brand new Class 395 'Javelin' EMU.

Wednesday 6/1/10 and most of Britain awakes to one of the coldest, and snowiest days for nearly 30 years.
What a day then to undertake an assessment trip to Newcastle with one of my drivers. The working was train 1N02, 0730 Kings Cross to Newcastle (from Peterborough) with Class 91, number 91125 in charge.
This collection features a number of images from the day.

With the new High Speed link from St Pancras to the Channel Tunnel now open, Belgium is as little as 1 hour 51 minutes away from London.
The SNCB network is rich on variety, the staff are very friendly and helpful and paranoia against enthusiasts is non existant.
Very much worth a visit I'd say.

Along with my work colleague and friend, Colin Fisher this was my first visit to see and photograph the German railway scene, and WHAT a baptism......Now totally hooked on the German scene, I now make visits at least once per month.

20 Class 20's put on show at Barrow Hill over the weekend of 14 and 15/7/07.
The event was put on to commemorate the 50th birthday of this ever popular class and included 2 railtour round trips from BH to Hope Cement Works.

Arguably the worlds most successful Diesel train, still going strong up and down the land, over 30 years since the first ones appeared on the scene. GNER's Mallard refurbishment programme, along with MTU re-engining has brought their ones bang up to date. First Great Western have also carried out re-engining with MTU and have 'refurbished' some of their sets as well. With Grand Central having just commenced their services, the future looks very bright for these iconic trains.

The BRCW Class 33 locomotive, otherwise known as 'CROMPTONS' after their traction equipment.
Originally Southern Region loco's in later years these very versitile loco's were to be found working as far afield as Swansea and Holyhead.

Tractors, Growlers. Call them what you will, but another very successful British design.
There cannot be any line in the country that hasn't been visited at least once by a member of this now sadly depleted class.

The Class 44 loco's were originally named after various UK mountains and thus acquired the nickname of 'PEAKS'. The nickname was subsequently used for the later Class 45 and 46 loco's, with these loco's becoming collectively known as Peaks.

Equally at home on either passenger or freight and on either diesel or third rail power, the 73 is truly a go anywhere, do anything loco.

The mainstay of the GNER fleet on the ECML, these loco's had mixed fortunes in their early days but have been much improved since the HGR rebuild earlier this decade.

On the weekend of 8/9th November 2008, NXEC ran for the first time some of their services via the 'Joint Line' through Spalding and Lincoln. This collection follows a journey via this route with train 1F22 the 1100 Kings Cross to Aberdeen on Sunday 9/11/08.

It is now more than a year since GNER dispensed with the services of the Class 373 Eurostar sets on the Whiterose services between Kings Cross and Leeds. Driving these trains was the highlight of my career thus far, culminating in me being chosen to drive the farewell special between Peterborough and Kensington Olympia. This collection pays tribute to the 'GNERstars' and my grateful thanks go to the various photographers who allowed me to use their material in this collection.

Images from a some of my trips to France. The SNCF network has a rich variety of both traction and locations. Shame about the security situation though, as there are a number of places that you may get challenged whilst taking pictures and it is well worth the effort of getting permission before taking your pictures, particularly at the Paris stations.

The ever popular DB BR218 'Rabbits' have been synonymous with the Lubeck area for a number of years now. With the winter 2008 timetable change, their regular passenger duties go over to electric traction. This collection shows 218's in action during their last weeks in passenger service along the Hamburg to Lubeck route in northern Germany.

The town of Lindau lies on the north shore of Lake Constantine in Southern Germany.
On the other side of the lake lies Switzerland and locomotives from both there, and also Austria can be seen at Lindau.
Whilst only on day trip, it yielded a remarkable crop of loco hauled passenger workings and a visit is well recommended.

A record of my many journeys to the North Wales Coast, between 1995 to 2000, to sample the many Class 37 hauled passenger workings of that particular era.

During the Mid 1990's, the then Regional Railways introduced an hourly loco hauled service between Crewe and Bangor / Holyhead with some workings starting back at Birmingham New Street.
Stock consisted of Mk1 / Mk2 stock, mainly hauled by Class 37's and these Class 37 hauled workings feature in a companion collection titled North Wales Class 37 passenger workings 1999 to 2000 ( http://michael170.fotopic.net/c1555364.html ).
With the added attraction of regular ballast workings from the Penmaenmawr Quarry as well, 'The Coast' became something of a 'Photter' magnet.

My favourite preserved railway. Running for 11 miles or so between Toddington and Cheltenham Racecourse, with the extension from Toddington to Broadway due to open in the not too distant future. The line boasts some stunning scenery, friendly staff and a number of BR Blue diesels, along with a good steam fleet as well.

My 'local' preserved railway. Has recently entered the 'Premier League' as far as Diesel Galas are concerned. Home to the superbly restored D306 ATLANTIC CONVEYOR and the first railway to regularly feature preserved 'Grid' haulage.
Well worth visiting one of their regular Diesel Galas, which feature frequent trains and motive power variety of both resident, and visiting loco's.
